If the US government was able to pour as much money into American Aquaculture as they poured into Thailand and the Phillipines, we could reduce our dependence on foriegn seafood.
Shrimp ponds consume so much algae, that the water is crystal clear. They eat it faster than you can supply it and yeild tons of shrimp per hectare.
I grow shrimp on a small scale, and I grow the algea to feed them. The algea I have might not yeild a lot of gasoline, but the shrimp seem to like it.
The US government seems to impede the aquaculture industry. It's one of the fastest growing industries in the world. Between the treehuggers and the fisheries, aquaculture doesn't stand a chance in the US. Meanwhile USAID subsidizes the foreign growers.
