Many US Farmers Are Cheating on ‘Refuge’ Plantings

Dew -- having read this twice now, I can see the significance of it, but what do we do now? Are you contemplating some sort of vigilante action?

I hope this wasn't idle rabblerousing. I'm ready to start rounding up wayward rednecks as soon as you say the word.

MON/DD/SYT—This piece on the corn rootworm shows what happens when growers cheat on insect-refuge areas:

http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2014/03/rootworm-resistance-bt-corn

The evidence of cheating with respect to insect refuges was broached in a prior thread on this board that contained one of the hardest quizzes to appear on this board (#msg-50939526, #msg-51033222). Also see the article in #msg-72289461.

“Refuge-in-a-Bag” premixed products from MON and DD solve the refuge cheating problem to some degree, but they aren’t as effective as a physical insect refuge in thwarting the emergence and population growth of resistant bugs.
