Sarai, I am a conservative protestant (as I'm sure you have figured out). I think salvation can only be understood in context of "what difficulty are we saved from" or "what problem salvation solves". Thus my dialog w/ jbennett. Once we have a clear definition of the problem - we can assess the effectiveness of various proposed "solutions" (methods of salvation). Without a mutual understanding of the problem, debating "solutions" is fruitless.

. Salvation
Salvation is granted by the grace of God alone, through faith in Jesus Christ
alone as Lord and Savior--not through "works" such as moral behavior, good
deeds, and generally not through sacraments. Some believe that once saved, or
born again, always saved....

Paul's letter to the Ephesians states
.... For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from
yourselves, it is the gift of God-- 9not by works, so that no one can boast.
10For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which
God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:8-9(niv)
