We do "look the other way at man's inhumanity to man!" We seek the moral high ground only when it's convenient to do so. A policy of moral or ethical convenience, I suppose?..
Zeev referenced a Sudanese Holocaust in which 2 million people, all - or the majority - Christian, have been exterminated, and we don't say "boo"..... Another 4 million have been displaced, living in conditions of sheer terror. Human rights groups indicate religious persecution to be at levels probably not seen since WWII. Yet we don't hear much about it.... Hindus have literally been torched in their temples, and not much is said about that either.... And all this, by Islamic extremists, done in the name of some higher deity. But religious perversion is almost always at the root of genocidal programs. Right?
But we are out to get Saddam? It would be different if Bush could prove a nexis between Saddam and the radical Islamic movements. But he doesn't seem to be able to do so. Iraq seems more like a "hunch" or worse - the pursuit of self interests. There is no doubt that Saddam is a very bad guy. Saddam is a genocidal war criminal but is there a reason he can no longer be "contained"? The real threat is from the radical Islamic movement and ideology. But it seems Bush would like us to overlook the big picture (mass genocide included), and focus on Saddam - at least for now.....
So much for that "moral high ground!"...
