While I agree that Saddam is a madman and the world would be a better place if he were not in it, when did he become a madman? Was it in 1979 when we had video that he shot representatives in the head if he thought in the future they might betray him? Was it when he supported us by going to war with our enemy Iran in the early 80's? Was it when he gassed the kurds and Iranian soldiers with WMD that we supplied him? Was it when Bush41 signed NSD26(National Security Document) in 1989 that stated the Iraq and Saddam were worthy of being treated as normal trading and political partners?

Since the Gulf War Saddam has been impotent and not a threat to anyone. When did he become this great bogeyman? Was it when he became our enemy?

It is about stopping a madman while we still can, and yes, that by itself would be a very good thing.

mlsoft...How preposterous to justify an invasion of Iraq by calling it "stopping a madman while we can"! If that were a sound argument, then please explain to me why there haven't been similar military moves against Lybia? North Korea? Rowanda? Pakistan?...and in years past, Chile?...among countless others. There are madmen aplenty in this world, but justification in pursuing/extinguishing them comes not from what they "might" do no matter how accurate may be our power to read minds.

It was Saddam that ordered an assassination attempt on George Bush I...

This is unrefuted, is it? I've heard the accusation, of course, but never seen any confirming documentation of action actually taken. It wouldn't surprise me if the "order" amounted solely to a frustrated Saddam wishing someone would rid him of President Bush.

Saddam clearly has caused Iraq to be a haven for terrorists...

Again, would you also propose moving similarly against the governments of Pakistan? Yemen? Somolia? Indonesia? Phillipines? Argintena? Uraguay? Brazil? Each of these has become a haven for terrorists...Iraq is far from unique on that count.
