#113816 RE: CoalTrain #113808

The Italian government also signed on to Iraq II in some limited way. I was speaking of the rank and file Italian people in general, and their visceral opposition to Iraq II, and war in general. One Iraq antiwar protest brought out 1 million people. My comments were based on anecdotal experience, Italian protest against Iraq II, and reports of Italian disapproval of Bush based on polls.

I know several 60-something Italian immigrants. In Italy, even the older generation, who once had a very favorable opinion of the US, was strongly opposed to the Iraq war. There is rising anti-Europeanism in this country based on European reaction to Bush's policies, but no one can argue that the Europeans, especially the older generation, have a more profound understanding of the effects of war, having experienced war first hand on their own soil. That's a horror we have never experienced. Perhaps if we had, we would not have signed on so quickly to Bush's Iraq II.

Re: Kosovo. Again, I have been saying all along, Americans are too brain dead to hold government accountable. The media programs to ratings. Young white girls with great photos get good ratings. Global politics do not. Wasn't the media and the R Congress pre-occupied with Clinton's Jane Does during Kosovo? So we get the government we deserve. We got Bush and the neocons.
