Oh. That was not clear in what you wrote. The Italians had a very different set of concerns than many other N.A.T.O. countries. They actually share a border with the F.R.Y. so they would be one of the people getting the refugees from a war that spread Balkans wide. They foolishly supported the war for a different set of reasons than most. The Italian support for the war drop precipitously when we started bombing the Italians. Rather than land planes with bombs that were not dropped on Serbia, American controled bombing missions made the choice to knowingly drop the bombs in Italian fishing waters. Some of the bombs ended up in Italian fishing nets killing a couple of Italians. The Americans involved gave the Italians the finger and made no excuses and no apologies.
You are right the Italians had huge protests against the Iraq war numbering a million or so. I think part of the reason for that was seeing close up during the bombing of Kosovo what mad dogs we Americans can be.
