I don't think they are pulling any legs. They explained the unit was for them to present to manufacturers. It will work for that. They just needed something to take to manufacturers and show them what Robert has accomplished in getting his ideas into a working prototype. Next step is for the manufacturers to add their 2 cents and get some units out the door.
Nothing wrong with a Boy Scout version. Means they will make it happen. Means they are honest. I worked with many young future leaders in there quest to accomplish there dreams. Roberts dream is coming to reality soon IMO. I will continue to work with young scouts and hopefully see many more dreams get accomplished. It gives one great pleasure in helping them to become future leaders just as I was helped in achieving my goal of becoming an Eagle Scout.
