Well when you have managment with specifications that state the dimesions of the desired box... sometimes engineering gets taken over by cost and common sense...
also do you really want consumers working on something like a microwave hot water heater... most plumbers go through years of training to be certified to work on a regular tank water heater...
but with so few moving parts the actually repairs needed should be minimal
