Hi TONY. It was always after the water had already been hot for awhile. After I expereinced it a few times, I started asking around and doing a little research online and I found that other tankless heaters had the same problem. I don't know if all tankless heaters have that problem. I had the temp set at 130 degrees. it was a whole house unit (i.e. Point of Entry).

Is thermal overload overheating of the heating element that is in direct contact with the water? Does it turn off briefly to protect the heating element from damage? If so, does that mean that the MCMHU may possibly not have that problem since the water is directly heated with micorwaves and not through conduction from direct contact with hot elements? Or do we know if the MCMHU uses both direct heating from microwaves AND conduction from hot elements?
