I've got thru two generations of Blackberry. Currently have the one Nextel offers. Very happy with it.

Little on the expensive side, but if you are e-mail dependent, it's worth it.

Dave and Bob have Treos.

I've got a Treo 600 and absolutely love it. I use T-Mobile, so though the plan is pricey, it includes unlimited internet. I can even trade stocks while driving to Omaha.

Dave's got a Treo 650, which is supposed to have some advantages over the 600. Of course, it came out shortly after I received my 600 after a wait of about 3 months. Dave was able to get his 650 pretty quickly.

One thing I haven't tried with it yet (but will) is the adaptor that'll let my laptop get on the internet through it. That could be really handy, although its internet speed feels far slower than even dialup.

Fortunately, places like yahoo.com and scottrade.com have a "mobile." server, which works wonderfully for the low bandwidth. I'd like to do something similar with our message boards.

Bucky, IMO the Blackberry’s suck! You might as well carry a laptop, again, JMO! My friend tried one for his company (State Lottery) on trial, I helped him out with the messaging both voice and text, as well as figuring it out (big book!). It was a real pain in the azz, it was also too friggin' heavy and at the same time too small. OBTW, the AT&T service really sucked too!!!

I have a Treo 650. Sprint had some serious voice quality issues, but I fixed that by installing a hack from http://www.shadowmite.com/

I think Sprint has finally incorporated the fix into their latest firmware patch, but I have not installed it yet.

It's a very handy device. Signal reception is good. Excellent screen quality, phone quality acceptable but not excellent. Bluetooth ear piece (Jamba) quality is mediocre; I think there are better options available now. The keypad is pretty decent, but I still find myself using a stylus and pecking. I also have the IR keyboard in case I have something long to type, though I use it rarely.

The native browser does a nice job of rendering sites not optimized for PDAs. The native email utility, Versa mail, is adequate to its task. The sync to the Palm desktop software is up to its usual good functionality.

There's no limit to what you can do with it if you are willing to spend the time. This week I'm going to get the DUN hack from the above website so I can use it as a wireless modem for my notebook where there's not a convenient unsecured wireless Ethernet network for me to "borrow". :-)

One drawback is that I have not figured out how to get past Windows authentication for web access to a secure server. I suspect I'll ultimately need to do it via VPN.
