Sounds a bit similar to 2009 :-). Hope so. We had a good coho year down here then but last year was tough for the coho. With the pinks down here, it'll be a busy year anyway on the rivers. Maybe the rumors of some 6 year chinook pushing close to 50 out there will be confirmed by you? LOL can't imagine fighting a 50 pounder where it can run wherever it wants to in the salt. Take care out there and have a good experience with the annual trek!
Chinook fishing has been pretty solid off the coast Westport Washington. Cohos more avg fishing so far out there but a bit early for the coho mojo.
Out of curiosity, have you ever tried crabbing with the simple loop snares casting a rod and reel? I have ring traps I'll plunk off the local pier but they don't get to the depth those guys can get chucking them out on rod and reel. Been craving dungeness but have only managed one keeper in several attempts off the local pier in the sound.
Goodness, sounds like big 'nooks are being had up there from the limited reports I'm seeing and not far offshore either. Hope that is boding well for you out there!
LOL hope the fishing has been better than the markets lately. Looks like it will be another strong year for pinks down here and they're a bit bigger this time too so I'm going to break out the 6 weight fly rod :-).
