#1443 RE: brainlessone #1439

brainless, Although I haven't read the book, I am familiar with it's content and some of it's theories. My point was regarding the Occupation which has virtually stripped all people in the Occuppied Territories of all freedom. What is the justification for stripping all freedoms from an entire group of people because of the crimes of a few? There isn't a better way? And what are the longerterm implications of oppression?

I can only imagine the anxiety and terror that living under the constant threat of homicide bombing would cause, or the pain of losing friends and loved ones to such horrific violence. But is the best, longterm solution to strip the whole group of freedom or liberty? Sharon, by limiting movement within the territories, has I'm sure, lessened the violence. But what are the longterm ramifications? And is Israel exercising the most prudent options, to limit bloodshed, and build stability and lasting peace? Or is Sharon winning battles by fueling hatred and causing more harm in the longterm?

Not all Palestinians are murderers and savages either. What right does the State of Israel to imprison all Palestinians within the Occupied Territories, morally or by International Law? I read excerpts of essays written by students, teenage Palestinian girls, from a Catholic girls school in Bethlehem. The essays detailed their existance under Occupation. It was sad, yet I'm sure these girls have committed no crime. Who has the right to deny them their education, their freedom and their youth? The girls are only one example.

My point is, what right does the State of Israel have to deny freedom to innocent civilians, because of the atrocities of some? Under Sharon, is Israel acting in it's own best interest, longterm? And what's the End Plan here? Or does this tragedy continue indefinately? FWIW, radical Islam is using the plight of the Palestinians to advance it's own objective. So, to that end, Sharon is playing into Islam's cause. The Occupation has exacerbated tension and hatred. How does this not end badly for all parties concerned?

Israel, like the world, lacks diplomacy and vissionary leadership.
