#1394 RE: jbennett53 #1393

I agree with you "The critical point is that many countries are crawling along at some relative state of stoneagism. On the other hand we are way up on a ladder with a long way to fall. I reject war because I believe that it causes far more harm than other means of resolution. Just what is loss of face that one would argue for a year and a half about the shape of a peace table while their soldiers were dying on the battlefield? My question to you would be to consider the path upon which we have embarked. I keep saying the Soviets built 40,000 nuclear weapons, 4000 of them were 20MT, can you account for these devices? " It was Bush who cancelled the pay for the bombs program with Russia

I dont agree with you that being nice will help. Every time its been tried its failed. Every time not being nice has been tried it too has failed.

I firmly beleive that most of the world is made up of theives like the mafia. There is an old chinese saying that goes something like if you dont make it big by forty join the Tongs. In hong kong they run ads on commercial TV openly asking people NOT to join the tongs. In Malaysia, if you try to start a business that will compet with the big guys, you get taken out very quickly so it operates like a big gang, but left alone youare ok. You could say the same in the US, but the US has a way of not being quite so good at preventing others from gaining power. The whole world works ,underneath a visage of lawfulness as a set of big gangs and this vernacular is often used by those who really know about gangs. Neither being nice or not being nice helps. This is the problem. And I do not know how to solve it. Osama even says the same thing about Arab dictators, only he gets wrapped up in religious gimcrackery and anti western propaganda, which leads me to think that he is jsut another economic gang.

most of the world really just wants their kids to have a better life.

in korea, I do not understand the situation, a few months ago they even admitted to kidnapping people off the beaches of Japan, so did America cause this? and how can they stop people who do this?

What would work is: speeding up the construction of the light water reactors we are building in North Korea and dismantling the plutonium reactor whose only purpose is to make raw materials for bombs, if everyone was rational. I saw a newspaper article today about Northern sudanese moslem women who were so fed up with the destruction of the christian south, they decided to go on a sex strike and deny men sex, which believe it or not had a well known arabic word attached o the particular behavior, so it is a well practiced event. Maybe this would work.

But let me ask you: its the same old thing if you beleive the american press: dont turn on the plutonium reactors, we will give you oil and help build other reactors. So they turn on the plutonium reactors anyway and sell missiles to saddam.

How did our rhetoric three years ago cause these events? What did we do to cause this?

There is now such a diffusion of knowledge that anyone can make most anything, let it be e coli or anthrax or nuclear bombs or computer memory

Saddam started the bioweapons program in the early eighties. How did our rhetoric start him to do so?

North Korea desperatly needs food and work.. Why dont they just ask and make a deal rather than threaten?

I once had an argument with some guy who was screaming and yelling about something ( no relationship to the on line stuff)
and I kept on telling him that I agreed with him, he was right, It took him over 5 minutes for him to hear me. It takes two sides to tango, and I do not hear the other side doing anything. Is all the rhetoric in the world the result of American meddling? Or is some of it grassroots? Did the US cause the riots in Nigeria with the beauty contest?

So I fear the same result you do, but at least you have what you beleive is an answer. I do not even have that.

In the movies, the guy with the biggest gun always wins. Even clint shoots better than anyone else. And Jimmy Stewart before him. There has to be faith to have dialogue.
