George...

I think it is clear that peace will not be coming in this era, although I believe it will come. For now, it is rather obvious that things are getting worse, not better, and that trend will continue.

I cannot speak to any other religion, but Christianity should not be judged on what various people have done or said while claiming to be "doing God's will", for they were all men who had their own agendas, and not men of God. The only way Christianity can be properly judged is by the Bible, which is the sole arbiter of all questions pertaining to it.

According to the Bible, anyone claiming to be a man of God (an ish Elohim) and wishing to speak for God apart from what is in the Bible should be willing to stand by the biblical test of a true prophet - if he ever speaks something that is not true, he is a false prophet and is to be stoned to death. That would slow some of these false prophets down a bit.

The Moslem religion is not the only one that sometimes preaches war.

It's more a question of what's the exception and what's the core. Moreover, there's the question of the ability to culturally evolve. It's precisely the "all religions are the same" attitude, that I'm attempting to dispel. A failure to understand significant intrinsic differences can lead to catastrophic policy blunders. These blunders will have market consequences.

Again JMO.

Religions have long provided support for wars and other violence. How easily it is all forgotten.

The role of of religion in society is a tool for reconciling "thou shall not kill" and "thou shall kill every man, woman, child and livestock in Jericho" in the eyes of the unwashed masses, depending on the occasion and desire by the elite. Monotheistic religion just happens to be really good at this function. Atheism as practiced during French Revolution and 20th century Communist states were equally up to the task.

George, good post. What you mentioned is today's reality check. All religions preach good, but we humans take it inhuman things in the name of religion, for worldly gains.
