In the suburb where I recently moved each citizen chooses their own provider. We had WM for quite a while, but their prices kept creeping up so we found a "local". The only problem that I see with the system is that we have trucks on our roads every day. More wear and tear and more noise. The flip side is that if we start to limit collection days then we can limit just about anything else. The old "slippery sliding slope". The other day I did not get my dumpster down to curbside in time. I called up my "guy" and they came back the next day. in the urban core from which we moved, there is no chance that the "public" sanitation workers would have done that. In fact once when they missed my ca they said I would have to wait until next week. We paid a giant mil rate for poor schools and crappy service and a small urban house. Now we pay only 52% of the taxes and get a great public school system. No brainer.
