#101021 RE: Golfbum #101019

don't see what amd brings to the party other than enormous discrete graphics chips. if that is what they're doing then they're now copying nvidia. put their graphics ip with an arm chip and peddle it...especially to the financial analysts.

Even nVidia took several years to make the Tegra epic fail into a reasonable win. The first generation lost every design win except for the Zune, and the second generation ended up ramping in volume about a year later than nVidia said it would.

But now that they are ramping Tegra 2 in 2011, you'd think it was ordained on stone tablets from the beginning.

Given AMD's track record, and the levels of expertise, execution, and aggression from the other ARM vendors - like Qualcomm, Samsung, TI, and now LG - one has to wonder in which niche AMD expects to fit, and how they are going to ramp sudden design expertise in wireless radio and other low power integration technology to compete in the low power space.

Intel has had a tough enough time, given 3 more years and several acquisitions in the mean time to accelerate. But given all that, I'm sure the analysts figure they are a shoe-in. AMD + ARM pixie dust will surely produce a powerful product, once mixed in a bowl and heated at 350F degrees for 2 hours....
