they've got cash to play around for quite a while. and i doubt they will be seriously in the red on any one quarter and i don't think they have any onerous loan covenants remaining.

but i don't think glofo 32nm is going to ship the volume that their fans are expecting. otoh, intel 32nm is in high volume in 3 (4?) fabs all ready to bring up SB.

so amd has to have a "new shiny thing" to wave in front of the analysts and it's probable that ARM is it. no matter that ARM chips are available from TSMC foundry customers. probably from glofo customers as well.

don't see what amd brings to the party other than enormous discrete graphics chips. if that is what they're doing then they're now copying nvidia. put their graphics ip with an arm chip and peddle it...especially to the financial analysts.

so if they do this which team will they redirect? the server team that already is marginally profitable according to their own temp ceo?

i doubt they'll announce the big strategy until they've got a full time ceo. clock's ticking on that one...
