#18335 RE: Mattu #18334

On the subject of advertising, I found this on the Kim Komando newsletter and thought it might work here...

i--> NEW WRINKLE IN THE INTERNET ADVERTISING GAME
There's a new idea at the online magazine Salon, http://www.salon.com.
Salon offers premium content, for which you must pay. Alternatively, you can view an ad for Mercedes-Benz E-class cars, which takes about 15 seconds. That gets you a 12-hour pass to see Salon's paid content. Overall, this strikes me as a nice advertising compromise. If you're not interested, you can click through the ad in a matter of seconds. It's a lot better than idiot pop-ups.

Maybe a 15 second commercial in return for 15 minutes of Premium. It would seem to me that salon gets ad dollars both ways, one for the banner ad, one for everytime someone does the commercial?

Yes, it's an Insight ad, but it's identified at ValueClick as Windows XP. I figured that out last time by clicking any of the ones I thought might be it.

One of the folks who was getting zapped by it earlier was able to see the same ad in IE and sent me a screen shot, which let me click through the ads at VC and figure out which one it was.

Also doesn't endear me to MSFT one tiny little bit. Everyone else is able to have their ads work on older versions of NSCP, so you would think they could. Makes me wonder why that's seemingly not the case. I mean, their benevolence as a competitor is legendary. <ng>
