The problem with going dark, quiet and walking away is that it forever stops the CEO and the company from being able to go public in the future and from being able to find investors later on. So its a very short term minded strategy. Thats why I think when there is a real business (people can argue about the extent of the business) behind a company, walking away from their public market responsibilities is a tough thing to do that is not done lightly.
