Remember that visibility and distance are distorted by falling snow, which increases the likelihood of serious, or fatal, traffic accidents. If you can’t see the vehicle in front of you, the same holds true for the vehicle behind you. Double the “four-second rule” to maintain additional stopping distance between the car in front of you while driving.

While keeping a safe distance, keep your headlights on all the time, but not your high beams. Operate the wipers during the drive and clear the windshield of snow manually if necessary. Slow down over bridges and overpasses as the chilling air builds ice quicker on a bridge than on the roads.
