The problem is that they don't know which of those subgroups would be the best target--no one does. They can't afford to choose the wrong one.

(Partially OT) One last thought: Since I am sure you are looking for anything that would be of benefit to your son: You might keep your eye on Afraxis, a startup that is developing PAK1 inhibitors for Fragile X and autism. Aiming at dendritic spine malformation/ malfunction. Not even in the clinic yet (later this year) but very intriguing. Gary Lynch is on their SAB.
