Putting 3 loops in the cord adds inductance possibly sufficient that the extreme high speed(frequency) of a strike will cause the current flow to slow down to the point where all that enormous energy will cause the loop to explode following the path of least resistance. As long as the turns are not tight, what the heck?? You never know. Inductance is resistance to AC flow.
We often tweak our coils with as little as a 5-15 turn change on many thousands of turns. You would think percentage wise it would have no effect, but it does.
