Not sure I agree that a printer does not need more protection. They have plenty of circuitry also.

Also, if the nature of a surge is extreme enough, many UPSes will shutdown immediately. Fair warning!

One thing we ran into this season was someone plugged their space heater into a UPS. It started smoking. lol

I replaced it of course.

I agree with the knot theory. It may work, so why not do it? Just keep the knots loose.

If lightning directly strikes the power lines near your house, you will have a very exciting time and probably lose some gear, unless everything is unplugged.



Had that happen last summer at my office. Appeared that the spike came through the telephone line...blew out the dsl modem, fried the mother board on my PC but the printer and monitor were unaffected...
