In Canada they spell it tonne, no? In any event JBII communications have always been about the NY permit and USA tons. Islechem certainly wouldn't speak in Canadian tons.

In America, if a publication means metric tons is generally specifies metric tons

Not that any of this matters...it's a 10% difference between the two.

Just make it metric tons .... The whole metric system makes a lot more sense and the rest of the world is on it. IE 20,000 kilograms = 20,000 liters. Try doing that in pounds and gallons ...
44,000 pounds = 5,405.40 gallons (now is that Imperial gallons or US gallons?).
Metric = Less confusion.
