I've thought over that very thing you mentioned as well (competing products released by the same individual). My thought is:
1) The Spin Gym may have been around long enough to saturate the market and reach all parties interested in buying, so perhaps it's time for the "next thing".
2) The Crosstoner appears to tone many different area of the body other than just the arms like the Spin Gym. My understanding is that the Crosstoner will also help with the lower body. I will speak to JP about this as he played with one personally when visiting HM3.
3) Forbes plans to release a full line of products with IHSN, so the Crosstoner is only the beginning of Forbes' long future with IHSN.
4) I don't believe they are behind schedule in any way, nor do I think they feel they "missed" the peak season for the selling of fitness equipment. Remember that they said the Crosstoner ads would begin testing in select markets in early January. When JP visited, they were busy editing the Crosstoner ad, and that was weeks ago, so surely it was finished up and rolled as planned. The test ads have likely already run. I wouldn't know though, as I don't own a television, nor would I be watching Oprah or Sally Jesse Rafael waiting to see if the Crosstoner randomly came up in the commercials.
5) The "other" Crosstoner that already exists may be bought out or payed off by IHSN in some form. If not, then perhaps IHSN has no concern at all about it because it is such an expensive product. The Forbes Riley Crosstoner will be going for less than $30 (potentially $15) whereas that other big hunk of metal (which is NOT a sexy looking machine at all, imo) is going for $75 when including shipping cost. Please reference older posts by myself or JP for information on Tim's "price point" plan for IHSN.
I say we see a PR this week or next Monday, but if not, then definitely sometime in January. I'm still thinking the audited financials should be out by then as well, along with a fresh website, etc. I will load more this week if I can get some before the next PR.
