Nearly every customer, competitor and nonwireless-related technology company of any substance has preannounced a disappointing quarter and/or provided a dire forward look ahead. The question is, how can Cisco Chief Executive John Chambers put a shine on the future? Will his firm catch a break from a slight uptick in tech spending and an ability to gain a more positive near-term visibility? Near term, Cisco probably has little, if any, momentum from two of its major growth initiatives, voice-over-IP and distance learning. Therefore, I believe the odds favor a Cisco earnings miss.
