If the oceans are rising, then more and more heavily populated areas will get more sea water going farther ashore, creating brackish areas and in some cases (which is already happening) making the local fresh water wells more salty.

Some crops can't handle salty water, such as the rice fields that were inundated by the catastrophic tsunami in 2004 in Thailand, Indonesia and other areas.

Food crops that grow in saltier waters will be important in the future along coastal areas.
