Glad you get it too! Yeah, he paid homage to the Who with this riff (he was a huge fan), and did something even better with it. Nazz rocked and had great ballads....complex chord transitions, harmonies, and good lyrics that fit the song.
If you want a glimpse of his soulfulness, here's one for ya. One of my favorite guitar soul-os of all time. Great voice, but got even better when it matured 5-10 years later.
