In the sense that Monsanto's strategy in the soybean area appears to be a great example wherein the sector is controlled by a private corporation through means facilitated by the government.

Having a company like Monsanto send around "investigators" to spy on people's farms, and having the government turn around and allow the prosecution of its citizens for having done nothing strikes me as the foremost example in the US today. I don't usually pretend like there is some moral value to investing, but I refuse to purchase Monsanto outright due to their business "strategies."

This is why I think the approval of the salmon should be accompanied by a clear declaration of the legal framework in which they'll be operating. Will they sell to private farmers? Will the salmon spawn? Will the farmers be allowed to sustain the fish? What is the penalty for the salmon entering unguarded waters?

I think the concerns regarding consumption of the fish are bunk, so I don't think that aspect of the approval requires any additional scrutiny.
