I remember the sign (billboard)above the viaduct in downtown Seattle when Boeing decided to abandone the SST and everyone thought Seattle would become a ghosttown " WOULD THE LAST ONE OUT OF TOWN PLEASE TURN OUT THE LIGHTS" Westy, your child will be able to buy a house regardless of what you think, if you provide the tools...and your negativism ain't a required tool! That's not how I remember the 1950s and 60's.

McCarthy was running rampant with his commie witch hunt.

In grade school we had nuclear attack drills... we were taught how to get under our desks and kiss our asses goodby.

John Kennedy, Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King were assasinated.

Riots were happening in our major cities. Federal troops were confronting segregationalist govenors to force open the doors of schools and other public places.

Viet Nam was raging. The war economy was sowing the seeds of the 80's inflation.

We were lucky to survive the idealic period you remember.

Prior to 1971 America ROCKED, its people worked hard, a buck was worth something, your child could play in the street with no fear.

--OT--WestPacific, I agree with some of your points in the past, particularly in the area of fiat.

Please note that at the end of my last post to you I said:

"But I will suggest this to you, if America continues in its generosity, continues to allow the Constitution to be its prime directive in all important affairs, continues to strive to advance the cause of the common man, then there is a mighty good chance that we will be around and leading the way for a very long time."

I believe, literally, what I wrote and that we must adhere to those principles in order to maintain our position of leadership in the world.

There is much room for improvement in America today, and in some areas I, like you, feel that America has taken very serious backward steps, that, if not corrected, will lead to serious consequences.
