using 40 million divided by 6 weeks and then project the annual sales using the weekly sales figure assumes no growth rate in the first 6 weeks and also no growth rate after the first 6 weeks.

I would suggest at least plug in an estimated growth rate to your model. (now, the growth rate is the guessing part!)
