There is also a question of Intel's purpose in changing the bus.
Years ago Detroit added fins to cars. Do you see how it might be tough on an accessory maker if they had to purchase a license because the car maker decided to change the fin shape. Is it not possible to manipulate bus protocol for a similar effect. I would suggest the number of changes that could be done just for the sake of change is huge. Would Intel do something JUST to screw someone else? Of course not they would make improvements also.
If Intel is a monopoly they should not be able to jerk the rug out from under a former partner because they want to take over that space. They have already practiced anti competitive practices and at the same time denial. It has been shown and documented, their purpose.
