Heywood, I understand that concern completely.

One way to avoid inadvertent screen touches is to set the ipad up on the keyboard dock on a stable surface, like a table or desk. The keyboard makes data entry faster and less error prone, as well.

I have not had any inadvertent touches using it that way, but I do sometimes accidentally hit the wrong spot when I am holding it in my hands, lying in bed, moving around, etc. It is rarely ever an issue that I would be concerned about, but if you were watching for the split second when to hit a button to make a trade, or bid on ebay, or such, you would need to be extra careful.

I have placed trades on Schwab with the ipad, but their website have a relatively foolproof system of needing to click multiple times through review screens before actually placing the trade or canceling an order. I have no concern about using it that way. But if you were using some other "one click" system it could be a problem.

I never use the "one click" feature on amazon for that reason, as well. (Except on the Kindle, where that is the only system, but that device's input via scroll and click is pretty slow and bullet proof.)

I've only used my phone for entering/exiting a trade once in awhile. It isn't something I do regularly. I've used a stylus when doing so since it is a bit more accurate than my finger. ;)

Dell told me that my delayed laptop has been shipped. I'm going to keep it afterall instead of canceling the order. As a full time day trader I'll need it when I travel. I don't think the ipad will be a good substitute for what I do. Otherwise, I would have preferred it over the laptop.

After viewing the ipad while considering a purchase I've decided it will be a great Christmas present for some relatives of mine.

I'm not an experienced trader, but here's my take on using the iPad for trading: I'm not going to do it.

As soon as I got my iPad, I went to Ameritrade and opened a trading window. When I set up an order and went to the review page, I immediately got out of there. I was not comfortable reviewing the order knowing that an inadvertent touch on the screen could enter the order.

I don't think touch screen is a safe way for me to trade.

I want to use a two step process (cursor + click) to enter the order. I don't want a random touch to be able to do that.

Are you using a touch interface on your phone for trading?
