First, be aware that any stream technology using Adobe Flash will not work on the ipad. Most Java-based sites work fine, a few don't.

The amount of data coming across in a stream of ticker quotes and charts is very low, as it is usually text and numeric data that gets sent, rather than graphics, and the local hardware computed the data into graphics.

So I would guess it might work just fine and not be a data hog, but you would have to test it yourself.

If your sites open on an iphone, they would work fine on the ipad.

If in doubt, got to an Apple store or find a friend with an ipad and try out your sites, to see how they look.

I use the ipad to follow ihub boards and trade through my Schwab account with no problem.

The real bandwidth hogs are streamed video or music. Anything based simply on updating text or numbers is not going to be any problem.

I'm not an experienced trader, but here's my take on using the iPad for trading: I'm not going to do it.

As soon as I got my iPad, I went to Ameritrade and opened a trading window. When I set up an order and went to the review page, I immediately got out of there. I was not comfortable reviewing the order knowing that an inadvertent touch on the screen could enter the order.

I don't think touch screen is a safe way for me to trade.

I want to use a two step process (cursor + click) to enter the order. I don't want a random touch to be able to do that.

Are you using a touch interface on your phone for trading?

Karin,

Although I don't have an iPad (yet) I do have an iPod Touch (mini iPad) I've used for about two years to make occasional trades, including futures at 3AM! I've used platforms and data from Schwab and Interactive Brokers, the latter is my favorite, and I use StockCharts during market hours, when I'm away from my trading desk.

Interactive Brokers has a nice App in the Store. I also sometimes email myself charts from QuoteTracker that I store in Dropbox. Many things are possible for a trader using an iPT, and it can only get better with an iPad. . .faster, larger screen, better battery, and 3G.

Check out some market related Apps on an iPad at an Apple Store.

There's a huge future for the iPad and similar devices. I think it's a big tech step forward.
