Caught my first Tyee in Gold river, must have been 10 or 11....41 pounds, I could barely hold it...my dad worked at the mill there for 20 or so years until it closed down. Lived there first two years of my life til we moved to CR. Your posts are making me miss it back home! I haven't been back fishing for years.. and my dad sold his Boston Whaler. Hopefully he buys one again soon so I can come back and do some salmon fishing. (that or a grady white :)
"I have a lot more fishing to do, no time to crap out with a heart attack now."
Well having a heart attack while fighting a mighty Tyee might not be a bad way to go eventually. Definitely a lot more fish to be caught first and foremost.
Amazing how big some of those Campbell River Kings get for you guys up north. We get a few here in Washington but not like some of the super-sized kings in that river.
I'll be looking forward to a photo or two of the suped-up craft. A little King salmon porn if available would be appreciated too :-)
I can always live vicariously...
Crabbing season just opened up down here in the Puget Sound area where I live today. Hoping to get a couple simple ring traps out Saturday off the pier and see if any Dungies are out and about.
Have fun up on the CR! Weather oughtta be finally shaking off Spring by then I'd think.
