Not quite sure what you are referring to.
The main thing in the demo video that seemed yet unclear was the amount of oil that the sorbent picked up.If oil is floating on water,then sorbent would merely have to be applied to the water's surface in order to interact(absorb) the oil from the water.......if I am getting it right.So,by imperative doing this experiment...it will become clear how much oil the sorbent will absorb.
It would seem that the same would be for the sand and dirt,except that the sand would have to interact with the sorbent differently than the water if the oil if mixed with the sand(and not just on the surface).So,the key to the sorbent's effectiveness is how fully it is integrated with the oil:if the oil if just on the surface(of anything,water or soil)...then it's way easier to pick up the maximum amount of oil(since it is in contact with the sorbent0.Also,if the sorbent is NOT in contact with the oil(as it would be if the oils are mixed with the water and or soil),it would have to be mixed or otherwise integrated with the water or soils to maximize the pickup.
That's the way I've presumed the sorbent works....
