I won't speak to Dan's ability (or lack thereof) to pick winning gold stocks, but IMO one cannot accurately assess his performance through the comparison you make between the current price of his chosen stocks and the price on the date he called them (2/26/04), since gold is currently in the doldrums and the result might have been quite different if gold were now at its highs.

Perhaps a comparison of the performance of his choices with the performance of other gold stocks for the same period would yield a more valid result. JMO

Yep, I'm guilty of all of the above, but in fairness, since you decided to quote me, you should have quoted the entire post which included the following caveat to anyone who might have considered buying any of the stocks in my list.

"Though most of these miners/explorers have had a really nice run in the past year or so, I believe the following gold/silver/copper miners still offer considerable upside potential for investors who have a medium to long term view of the PM market. How they will perform in the near future, however, is little more than conjecture and, ideally, should be purchased during periods of weakness.

Fwiw, back then I always took the long term view and, truth be told, still hold positions in all but CAU which I sold well before they lost the Montana anti-cyanide referendum.

Should you care to delve further into their history, most of the above stocks enjoyed decent price appreciation after that February post which I've been told led to some of the threadsters to post some decent pwofits.

I would hope some day that you would do as well....

And yes, son, I readily admit to being the biggest bull where gold stocks are concerned, but only some gold stocks and only from a long term viewpoint.

Frankly, I don't know of any serious gold traders or funds who came out ahead last year..... do you?
