Using the word, bright, and politician in the same sentence is not allowed on this board. Be it Republican of Democrate, and throw in the Federal Reserve, or any governement official appointed by these politicians.

Today's last hour was interesting, but the inter-day swings are great for some nimble traders.

Someone mentioned that Bernanke speaks on Wednesday, does that mean the market will roll over when he finishes, or is that all part of the trick.

Hap, Thank you for the compliment. I hope some of my random musings can reach a wide audience, some of whom may well be young political staffers perhaps even politicians of today or future. Most current politicians are too busy fund raising; most of the policy decisions are made by staffers (under the advisement of lobbyists) nowadays; many of politicians don't even have the time to read the important laws that they legislate.

Informed voters are even more important than informed politicians, especially if the "mandatory vote" proposals are to come. Many societies collapsed because the people wanted to place the government jackboots on the face of someone else (be it "tax them" or "ban them," but "subsidize me"), assuming that's some kind of "free lunch" provided by the pagan god named "government," only to find the same jackboots crashing down hard on their own heads in turn. To maintain a free society, voters have to be constantly reminded of the infeasibility of "free lunch" theories.
