Oh yes they do. These folks know exactly how to calculate based on the FACT that the oil is entering the casing at the bottom which travels the depth of the hole and exits and that pressure can be measured at the top where the blow out has occured. That gives them a rate of flow after a few more calculations. Absolutely they know. Just like they knew they were risking a lot by a review of their behavior and events before this catastrophe.

I worked in the oilfields... I have seen/heard the disagreements around the rig floor. This is the ultimate catastrophe based on the inability to make a safe decision to do the right thing.

what corporations can you list that don't have their corporate profits and upper management bonuses as a their first priority ?

oh, i know their mission statement will proclaim otherwise but lets face reality square in the face. corporations don't give a crap about the little shareholder, the environment, etc.

the reason corporations are thought of as "evil and they always lie" is because enough evidence has been collected to prove that point.

similar to why car salesmen are known as shady. lawyers are known as ambulance chasers. well,...you get the picture.

The Invention of Lying (fantastic movie)...at a Netflix near you.

a Freshman physics student could look at the underwater gusher videos for 10 minutes and if given the diameter of the pipe & given the consistant flow & pressure, extrapolate a fairly accurate computation of how much fluid material moves thru the opening in any 24 hour period. Probably a 15 minute exercise.
