i would call wayne king... i've seen it mentioned a few times that the sorbent could be used underwater, though i agree that the greater likelihood is that they will be used to protect/ clean up shoreline

Not true...although it would difficult to use on the plumes. It could be shot directly into the well head and soak it up from the beginning and be already absorbed as it rose to the surface instead of dispersed to the ocean floor :(
