Yep, that's right! When Walt & I use to drive back form Texas, he would drive there, anf I would fly there, and we'd meet up somewhere in Texas. Coming back to OR through TX, NM, AZ and NV, we'd see a lot of places the were prown to Gully-washing/wash-outs...etc... Have you ever heard the term "arroyo"/s?
