Hey, Milk

re: "My recommend to this item of a wish is that they formally add it to the 'The New iHub Wish List'"

My sentiments ... exactly.

#89 RE: gotmilk #83

Darth is slowly easing into the job but I can tell she's a little frustrated with me right now because I get so wrapped up in other things, it's hard to give the list my full attention. Part of her job is to take those other things that get me wrapped up and prioritize them for me and put them on my list. Her job is basically to be my "handler" and she'll evolve into it and has already come up with creative ways to get my workload managed for me. My time is best spent working; not figuring out what work should be done and when.

Darth, there's a biggie you need to add to my list. Monthly, semi-annual, and annual subscriptions do have expiration dates but there is no code in place yet to do anything about it. Effectively, monthly subscribers currently get a free ride after their expiration date is reached and will continue to do so until I get this project done, but I'm not in a huge hurry.

Add "Aging of expirable accounts and sending renewal notifications" to my list and make it a low priority. Schedule it for sometime next month. Notes to add to it are:

1. Renewal adds time to today's date or subscription expiration date, whichever is later (so the "free ride" time will really be free and if they renew ahead of time, it's added to the time they've already paid for).
2. Include renewals on the front page.
3. PM at least 5 days in advance of expiration.
4. On expiration, take user to a page giving two options: "Renew Now" or "Don't renew yet".
5. If the account doesn't renew, back it off to free account.

SI used to have this problem and during my tenure it was never addressed. A 6-month subscription was the same as a lifetime subscription; just cheaper. Accounts never expired.

I want to address this next month since we'll soon be announcing a finite number of lifetime subscriptions that remain available (I'll announce when there are fewer than 200 left, and there are barely more than 200 available now), and the recurring subscription type is the core of our planned revenue model.

Today, most of my time is being spent catching up on accounting. I'm nearly done and expect to send out the charity checks this afternoon and close August's books.

Tomorrow's priority (likely not on your list, Darth), is to follow through with ditching NLB and just setting up the new webserver to replace the old one. We'll go to the ISP, take the site down for a while (after market hours), install/configure the email software, setup DNS on it, and take the old webserver out of the loop.

This should fix the problems we're still frequently seeing with email functions not working.
