It appears that the Yankees are learning and looking to youth on the pitching staff. They should have never signed Brown given his back problems. Giambi was another mistake when they failed to resign Tino. ARod and Jeter's long term contracts will pay off for the Yankees.

FWIW Lou could have gone to the Mets; he went home instead.

jarsch - do tell more

anything else you can us about the source of that alleged Burnett comment? Don't forget the same thing (kinda) went down with Pavano. He allegedly told "friends" that he didn't want to live/play in NYC, only to wind up signing there a couple months later.

As for Burnett, I don't think it's up to him. The Marlins GM fancies himself a shark and a cutthroat negotiator. He wants to bring home the biggest prize and I suspect he will hold out. I think Burnett will be worth more mid-season than now, both because I think whichever team is trailing will be more desperate, and also because I expect Burnett will have put up some serious numbers in the first half. As of now, he really hasn't had long enough past his return from surgery to really, fully prove himself. I expect his 1st half of '05 to be a big improvement on the 7-6 and 3.68 he posted last year. The first several games back, he was getting his legs under him, and justifiably shaky putting the elbow back under full game condition stress, but after going 1-5 to start, he finished up with a 6-1 stretch, including several dominant starts.
