Business Week is supposed to report news not speculate. The article certainly didn't leave the impression of any speculation by the author.

The journalist should have, and likely did, call THRR and ask the following questions:
1. Who made the offer? A: unknown
2. What is the reason / value proposition? A: Technology base and patents
3. Why is this happening now? A: Company trading at a depressed price
4. When will the deal close? A: On or around April 10th
5. How much is the deal worth? A: $14.1M cash

Financial journalists don't look up O/S and A/S prices and infer, they report after asking pertinent questions. That's what makes Business Week a reliable source.
