Wind is the most noticeable factor in this city's weather, a factor made more conspicuous by the flatness of the local terrain. The winter brings chilly north or northwest winds as well as periods of rain, freezing rain, and snow. With the growing season arrives the prevailing south wind, which produces a distinct northward tilt in trees in the entire area. Spring also carries with it the threat of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes, a threat which only diminishes with the hotter and drier weather of the summer. Fall generally brings fairly moderate, though often changeable, weather.
