They're not related in the sense that you can't restore your mitral valve function by bringing your lipid levels to normal.

However, keeping your blood pressure in check will help the mitral valve situation in the sense that you'll better preserve it's function.

The disease is progressive but not as progressive or as lethal as aortic stenosis and many patients can be asymptomatic or have minimal symptoms and never need surgery.
