RE RR ties... totally cool!... you'll like this... one of the men in the neighborhood I was raised in... carved Tikis out of them and used them for property decorations... Glacier Hills consisted of small (1/4 acre) lots... so less is/was more...

Cedar lasts forever... that is what was under the roof of the original part of my parents' house... When they added on, the bonehead architect talked them into a flat roof (on the new living room) and a tar and stone roof... stupidest uckingfay idea in the Jersey climate... eventually was overgrown with moss... when my brother the carpenter replaced it, he had to replace the plywood on the addition, but not the original cedar.
