Chas...Welcome To The RANT! Board! I've lived in Oregon all my life, and while we don't the winters we used to, we still get ice almost every year and some snow. I've never bought studded tires or snow chains, and I was a tire man in the old days!
Daddy Said: Just Don't Over Start, Over Steer, Or Over Stop. There was snow the day before and then a silver thaw that night and now a fresh snow was falling as I was getting this first driving lesson. I always thought this was a good way to teach, I soon learned the importance of my actions with the over because of the weather & road conditions.
BTW, Sounds like you had a good up bringing.
