AD, I "WAS" a big follower of Dent. I think the stuff he writes now is crap. His best book was the one he wrote in 1993 titled 'the great boom ahead'. I think everyone should read that book on the lessons he teaches on demographics.
Dent reminds me of Greenspan. Greenspan recognized "irrational exuberance" in 1996. He then did not act on it and started playing washington politics.
Dent recoginized the coming "great boom ahead" in 1992. He forcasted then a DOW 8500 by 2007. (personally I think he will be right on). It was uncanny how many of his 1992 predictions came through. He also called for the next great depression from 2008 to 2023. (I think he will be right on there too)
Then Dent went on the corporate speaking tours. Corprations hired him as a motivational speaker to talk about how great things will be in the next 5 years. When he wrote the 'Roaring 2000's' he pretty much had covered up and "Boom then Doom" talk. Corporations do not hire speakers to pump up troops that talk of 'doom' in the future. Dent sold out to keep the speaking fees coming in.
His first book layed out a great ground work for predicting the future. He has not factored in that the economy and stock prices have gotten way ahead of themselves. His new predictions are absurd in my opinion. A potential high of 20,000 on the Nas in 2009. Let's get real!
